Reverse description A vividly colored coral snake rendered in full color application, its banded body in alternating yellow, black, red, and blue scales coiled across a naturalistically sculpted rocky surface at center. Lush jungle foliage, including broad tropical leaves and palm fronds, frames the scene in applied color, extending to the periphery. A small shield-shaped cartouche bearing the series inscription JUNGLE LIFE appears at lower center in the field. The legend .999 FINE SILVER 1/2 OZ is incused along the lower arc of the coin.

Additional information

The Bank of Central African States issues currency on behalf of six member nations — Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon — all sharing the CFA franc under a monetary agreement with France dating to 1945. This coin is legal tender across that entire zone simultaneously, a peculiarity that makes its nominal issuing authority something of a geographic fiction: no single "Central African State" exists to spend it.

The coral snake series belongs to a generation of BEAC silver collector issues aimed squarely at the European and Asian numismatic market, with virtually no circulation intended within the member states themselves.
