Reverse description Two footballers in dynamic action are depicted in the central field, one challenging the other for possession of a football at their feet, rendered against a raised silhouette map of Germany occupying the background. A small vignette of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin appears to the right of the figures. The legend 'COUPE MONDIALE DE FOOTBALL' arcs along the upper rim, while 'ALLEMAGNE 2006' is inscribed in the lower right field and the year of issue '2001' appears in the lower left field.

Additional information

Togo's participation in this series was purely a licensing arrangement — the country had no footballers at the 2006 World Cup in Germany, having failed to qualify for that tournament when this coin was struck in 2001. Togo would eventually reach its first and only World Cup in 2006, but that qualification came years after this piece was already in collectors' hands.
