Obverse description A seated allegorical female figure, rendered in classical style, occupies the central field, holding aloft a stone tablet inscribed with the national motto UNITE / TRAVAIL / PROGRES (Unity, Work, Progress). The legend REPUBLIQUE DU CONGO arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 500 FRANCS is inscribed in bold lettering along the lower rim. The design is executed against a deeply mirrored proof field, giving a strong cameo contrast between the frosted devices and the polished background.

Reverse description A colorized depiction of a Swissair commercial jet aircraft in flight dominates the central field, rendered in polychrome enamel with the distinctive Swiss cross livery on the tail fin in red and white. Below the aircraft, a stylized mountain landscape — evoking the Swiss Alps — is similarly highlighted in blue and grey coloring. The arc legend L'HISTOIRE DE L'AVIATION (The History of Aviation) runs along the upper border, the commemorative date range 1931-2001 appears in the lower exergue, and the issue year 2002 is inscribed to the right of the aircraft in the field.
