Reverse description A fully rigged three-masted sailing barque, identified as the SSS Gorch Fock, is depicted in fine engraved detail occupying the majority of the reverse field, shown underway with sails set. In the upper left quadrant, a circular medallion portrait of a uniformed naval figure — presumably associated with the vessel — is inset within the design. The legend SSS GORCH FOCK arcs along the upper portion of the field, and the date 2014 appears in the lower left exergual area. The overall rendering is executed in a crisp, highly detailed relief characteristic of modern commemorative coinage.

Additional information

The Gorch Fock II is the German Navy's sail training ship, commissioned in 1958 and still in active service — one of the few tall ships still used for military instruction in Europe. Ivory Coast's issuance of a coin honoring a German naval vessel is a product of the private mint commemorative market, where Pacific island and West African CFA franc issuers routinely license designs with no meaningful connection to the issuing state. The legal tender status is nominal; these pieces are produced for collectors, not circulation.
