| Obverse description | The obverse displays the national coat of arms of Benin at center, featuring a quartered shield with a castle, a Maltese cross, a palm tree, and a sailing ship, supported by two leopards rampant on either side and surmounted by a buffalo head above. A scrolled ribbon below the shield bears the national motto in Latin script: FRATERNITE JUSTICE TRAVAIL. The circular legend REPUBLIQUE DU BENIN arcs across the upper field, while the denomination 500 FRANCS CFA is inscribed in two lines at the bottom of the field.
