| Obverse description | The silver centre features the national coat of arms of Benin, depicting a quartered shield supported by two lions rampant, with a buffalo head atop the shield and a scroll bearing the national motto below. The copper outer ring displays radial line decoration throughout. The legend REPUBLIQUE DU BENIN arcs along the upper border of the ring, with the date 2022 inscribed in the field above the coat of arms. The denomination 500 FRANCS CFA is inscribed in two lines along the lower portion of the silver centre field. |

| Additional information |
Benin has no mint of its own and issues coins almost exclusively as numismatic products through third-party licensing arrangements, typically via the Bavarian State Mint or similar European contractors. The CFA franc itself is managed by the BCEAO — the West African central bank — which means Benin cannot independently issue circulating coinage in that denomination. These 500 CFA pieces exist entirely outside the monetary system; they are legal tender in name only, produced for collector export markets with no expectation of ever reaching Cotonou.
