The Ivory Coast has no historical or political connection to the Great Wall — this is one of dozens of "fantasy" issues produced from the early 2000s onward by the Monnaie de Paris and various private minting houses under licensing arrangements with West African franc-zone states, exploiting their nominal sovereignty to produce coins targeting the collector market rather than circulation. The actual CFA franc monetary authority, the BCEAO, had no role in these programs.
