| Reverse description | The reverse presents a vivid full-colour depiction of the Madagascan sunset moth (Chrysiridia rhipheus) rendered against a lush green tropical fern background. The butterfly is shown with wings spread, its distinctive iridescent orange, teal, and black wing patterns faithfully reproduced in polychrome colour printing. A large magnifying glass occupies the central field, its lens framing and enlarging the moth specimen in a three-dimensional optical effect achieved through an integrated magnifying lens insert. The species name Chrysiridia rhipheus is inscribed in italic lettering along the upper inner rim of the coin. |

| Additional information |
Chrysiridia rhipheus, the Madagascan sunset moth, is native exclusively to Madagascar — which shares no political or economic relationship with the six BEAC member states that issued this coin. Its appearance here is purely commercial: the wildlife bullion and collector market has long rewarded exotic subject matter over geographic relevance, and central African minting programs have become prolific suppliers of exactly that.
BEAC issues of this type are produced under license by private minting houses, with the issuing authority functioning essentially as a sovereign name for hire.
