| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of Benin occupies the centre of the field, depicting a quartered shield supported by two leopards rampant, surmounted by a buffalo head above, and bearing a scroll below inscribed with the national motto FRATERNITE JUSTICE TRAVAIL. The country name REPUBLIQUE DU BENIN arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 500 FRANCS CFA is inscribed in two lines across the lower field. The coin is struck in proof finish with a highly polished mirror field. |
