| Additional information |
Cameroon has issued coins through the Central African CFA franc zone since independence in 1960, but the country's numismatic program has increasingly operated outside that monetary framework — producing collector pieces with no functional relationship to the currency actually circulating in Douala or Yaoundé. This rhodium-plated issue is a product of that cottage industry, struck for the international bullion and novelty collector market rather than domestic use.
The Asiatic lion has no geographic or historical connection to Cameroon.
