Comments

The CFA franc zone has operated under a fixed parity with the French franc — and since 1999 with the euro — a monetary arrangement that has generated persistent debate about fiscal sovereignty among the eight BCEAO member states. This 500-franc denomination is the lowest in the current series, and in daily commerce across the region it functions more as a transactional workhorse than a savings instrument, meaning circulated survivors in collectible condition are genuinely harder to find than the print runs suggest.

The rotating co-signatures are worth tracking: Tiémoko Meyliet Koné held the governorship throughout the full 2012–2017 run of P#219B, while five different vice-governors cycled through the counter-signature position — an unusually high turnover for a six-year window.
