Obverse description Central to the obverse is a finely detailed bust of a traditionally adorned African woman, her hair styled in elaborate braided cornrows and wearing a beaded necklace, depicted in a contemplative three-quarter pose facing left. The figure is rendered with considerable artistic depth against a mirror-polished field. The circular legend REPUBLIQUE DU TCHAD arcs along the upper rim, while the national motto UNITE • TRAVAIL • PROGRES • curves beneath it in a secondary arc. The denomination 500 FRANCS is inscribed along the lower rim in bold raised lettering.
