Cameroon's commemorative coinage program is managed not by the Banque des États de l'Afrique Centrale in any meaningful operational sense, but effectively licensed to European private minting houses — principally the Monnaie de Paris and various contractors — who design, produce, and distribute these pieces with little connection to domestic circulation. The cassowary, native to New Guinea and northeastern Australia, has no geographic or ecological relationship to Cameroon whatsoever.
These issues are struck purely for the international collector market, with Cameroon's nominal issuing authority functioning as a licensing arrangement.
