Additional information

The Bank of Central African States issues coinage on behalf of six member nations — Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon — under a monetary union whose franc zone arrangements trace back to the 1972 Brazzaville treaty. The 500 Francs denomination sits well above daily purchasing power for most citizens in the zone, placing issues like this firmly in the collector market rather than circulation.

Gold-plated .999 silver pieces in this series were produced by the Monnaie de Paris under contract, part of a broader zodiac-themed program across multiple years.
