Reverse description Two seated Egyptian cat figurines, reminiscent of the goddess Bastet, are positioned symmetrically facing each other in the central field, referencing Malraux's deep engagement with art and civilisation. Between and above them, the date '1997' appears at the top of the field, below which the national motto 'LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ' is inscribed in three lines. The denomination '500 FRANCS' is prominently displayed in large characters at centre. In the lower field, the titles of four of Malraux's major literary works — 'La Condition Humaine', 'L'Espoir', 'Les Voix du Silence', and 'Antimémoires' — are inscribed alongside a facsimile of his signature.
