Obverse description Central denomination numeral '500' in Eastern Arabic script within a raised circular border, with the word 'فلساً' (Filsan — an error for the correct plural 'فلوس') inscribed below within the same circle. A curved Arabic legend reading 'الجمهورية العراقية' (Republic of Iraq) arcs across the upper field outside the circle. Two crossed sprigs — one of wheat and one of palm — flank the lower portion of the central circle. The coin is struck on a square flan with rounded corners and a milled border of fine denticles.
