Issued as part of Monnaie de Paris's ongoing collaboration with the Manufacture nationale de Sèvres, this piece was struck the same year the porcelain manufactory marked its 260th anniversary of continuous royal and state patronage. Sèvres was effectively saved from closure by Louis XV in 1759 when the Crown absorbed its debts and relocated production from Vincennes — a patronage relationship that has, in one form or another, never ended.
The coin's 155.5 g fine gold format places it in Monnaie de Paris's prestige bullion series, where mintages are typically held below 500 pieces.
