| Obverse description | The obverse features a contemporary allegorical effigy of Marianne in three-quarter facing portrait, her flowing hair adorned with a crown of twelve five-pointed stars evoking the European flag, set within a central circular frame. The background of the inner field is composed of geometric, overlapping angular panels rendered in a modernist graphic style, with architectural vertical lines flanking the effigy. Surrounding the central medallion, the legend spirals outward in bold capital letters reading EUROPE CONTEMPORAINE and REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE, with the date 2016 incused at lower left. At the base of the design, the Europa Star programme logo — a stylised letter E incorporating a star — is prominently displayed in the lower field.
