Obverse description The silver centre field features a stylised armillary sphere — emblematic of Portuguese maritime exploration — rendered in a geometric, modernist style with the Portuguese coat of arms incorporated at its centre. Below the sphere, the denomination numerals '500' are displayed in a bold, structured arrangement against a finely lined background. The field is divided by vertical panel borders creating a tripartite composition. The legend 'REPUBLICA PORTUGUESA' runs vertically along the left and right borders of the central panel, with the mint mark 'INCM' appearing at the lower right.
