Cabo Verde's 2007 series was the first full redesign since independence-era notes gave way to the post-1975 escudo issues, and Oberthur's involvement continued a long-standing French printing relationship with the archipelago's central bank. The 500 escudo denomination sits at the practical mid-range of the series — high enough to see commercial use, low enough to circulate heavily, which means worn examples are considerably more common than for the 1000 or 2500 escudo notes.

Pick 69 carries only a watermark and security thread for authentication — a relatively spare security specification for a note printed this late in Oberthur's tenure, by which point most comparable issues from the region had adopted more layered features.
