Reverse description A finely detailed, naturalistically rendered rat is depicted in profile facing right, occupying the central field against a deeply mirrored proof background. The denomination '500 DOLLARS' arcs prominently along the upper portion of the field in bold raised letters. Beneath the denomination, the Chinese cyclical characters '甲子' (jiǎ zǐ, denoting the Year of the Rat in the sexagenary cycle) are positioned centrally above the animal motif. The legend 'HALF OUNCE FINE GOLD' appears in the lower exergue, and the entire design is enclosed by a beaded border.
