Reverse description A galloping horse, rendered in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field, occupies the centre of the reverse, depicted in full profile striding to the left with flowing mane and tail. Above the horse, the denomination legend 500 DOLLARS arcs along the upper field, flanked by the Chinese cyclical characters 庚午 (Geng Wu, denoting the Year of the Horse in the sexagenary cycle). The inscription HALF OUNCE FINE GOLD appears in the lower exergue. The entire design is enclosed within a raised beaded border.
