| Obverse description | A highly detailed ultra-high relief rendering of the interior nave of St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City occupies the entire field, depicted in a dramatic perspective view looking toward the altar. The ornate Baroque baldachin by Bernini dominates the central axis, flanked by elaborately decorated pilasters bearing sculpted figures of saints in niches to either side. The coat of arms of the Republic of Palau appears centrally within the composition, accompanied by the curved legend REPUBLIC OF PALAU and the denomination 500 Dollars incused below. At the lower portion of the coin, a rectangular inlay of red Tiffany-style art glass is set into the field, evoking the luminous stained-glass windows of the basilica, with the series inscriptions TIFFANY ART 2022 and METROPOLIS appearing below it. |
