Obverse description Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 77, rendered in fine relief against a polished field. The Queen is portrayed bareheaded, wearing a necklace and drop earrings, in a mature and dignified portrait typical of the Susanna Blunt coinage effigy. The obverse legend arcs around the periphery, identifying the sovereign and issuer. The portrait conveys a realistic and refined artistic treatment consistent with the commemorative character of this .9999 fine gold issue.

Reverse description Central high-relief depiction of the original Royal Canadian Mint building on Sussex Drive in Ottawa, rendered with architectural precision showing the castellated Gothic Revival stone facade, twin corner towers with merlons, a flagpole atop the central tower bearing a flag, and the Royal Arms of Canada displayed prominently on the facade above the entrance. The bilingual mint name legend — 'Royal Canadian Mint' to the left and 'Monnaie royale canadienne' to the right — arcs around the upper periphery in a frosted finish against a mirror field. The centennial dates '1908' and '2008' appear to the right of the building, and the denomination '· 500 DOLLARS ·' is inscribed along the lower border, commemorating the centenary of the mint's founding.
