| Reverse description | The reverse depicts a Red Kangaroo bounding to the left in high relief, set against a radiating sunburst pattern that fills the field. In the upper portion, enclosed within a circular cartouche against a dark background, appears a detailed representation of a gold nugget. The legend AUSTRALIAN NUGGET COIN arcs along the upper periphery, while the commemorative inscription 35 P RED KANGAROO appears in the lower central field, with the anniversary dates 1986 - 2021 along the lower rim, celebrating 35 years of the Australian Nugget coin series. The Perth Mint privy mark P is visible to the right of the numeral 35. |

| Additional information |
The Australian Nugget (later rebranded Gold Kangaroo) series has changed its reverse design annually since 1990, a deliberate policy by the Perth Mint to discourage melting and sustain collector demand. The 155.5g format corresponds to five troy ounces — a denomination produced in strictly limited quantities each year, with the Perth Mint never disclosing exact mintage figures for bullion issues above the one-ounce tier until well after the release window closes.
Jody Clark's sixth portrait of Elizabeth II, adopted by Australia in 2019, appears here for only a brief run before the Queen's death in September 2022 ended the series entirely.
