Additional information

This piece reproduces the famous 100-ducat coin struck for Emperor Ferdinand III by the Prague mint in 1629, one of the largest gold multiples produced in the Habsburg minting tradition. The original was a presentation piece — coins of this denomination were never intended for commerce but were distributed as diplomatic gifts and marks of imperial favor, a practice rooted in the Renaissance *osella* tradition.

The 1629 Prague original is among the most coveted of all Central European gold multiples. Niue's modern restrike in .9999 fine gold weighs in just under 11 troy ounces — closely matching the ducat weight standard of the period scaled to the 100-unit multiple.
