Reverse description A golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) is depicted in dynamic flight across the central field, wings fully spread and talons extended, rendered with fine naturalistic detail. The rocky summit of Kriváň, the iconic peak of the Slovak Tatra mountains, rises from the lower field beneath the eagle. The legend SLOVAKIA arcs along the upper rim, flanked by the weight designation 10 OZ to the left and the fineness AU 999.9 to the right. The mint mark CM and the engraver's initials MB appear as small marks within the field.

Additional information

This 10-troy-ounce gold issue belongs to the broader "Golden Eagle" bullion and collector series that Niue has used as a vehicle for high-denomination face-value coins since the series gained traction under Elizabeth II. Charles III's accession in September 2022 made a new effigy obligatory, and the 2023 date marks one of the earliest large-format gold issues to carry his portrait under this program.

Niue's arrangement with the New Zealand government grants it the right to issue legal tender bearing the reigning British monarch — a fiscal quirk that has made the island a favored jurisdiction for precious metal issues with nominal face values bearing no relationship to circulation reality.
