Guyana's currency hierarchy shifted significantly after oil revenues began transforming the economy following the 2015 Liza field discovery and commercial production from 2019. The 500-dollar denomination, once representing meaningful purchasing power, has been progressively squeezed from below by inflation and from above by the need for higher denominations to handle routine transactions — a pressure the 2024 series refresh was partly designed to address.
G&D's Munich facility has handled Guyanese note production across multiple series. Cotton substrate, security thread, and watermark place this squarely in the mid-tier security specification G&D typically applies to non-polymer issues in this value range.
