During the 1992–1995 siege economy in Bosnia, large state enterprises that had survived the Yugoslav system intact — factories, mines, steelworks — occasionally stepped into the monetary vacuum left by collapsing banking infrastructure. DP Željezara Zenica, one of the largest steel complexes in the former Yugoslavia, issued food vouchers denominated in dinara for use among its workforce when cash became unreliable or unavailable for wage payments. These are not banknotes in any formal sense; they functioned as internal scrip, redeemable at company canteens or designated suppliers.

Survival is largely accidental — wartime paper of this kind was discarded once redeemed, not archived.
