Comments

Uzbekistan's earliest paper money after independence came in the form of "coupons" — a deliberate hedge against full monetary commitment while the country remained nominally tied to the Soviet ruble zone. The 1993 coupon series was introduced as a parallel currency before the som replaced it entirely in July 1994.

The 500 denomination sat at the higher end of a series that was almost immediately overtaken by inflation, rendering large-denomination coupons functionally obsolete within months of issue.
