| Obverse description | Intaglio portrait of Manuel María Gutiérrez Flores, the celebrated Costa Rican composer, occupies the right half of the note, his name inscribed below the vignette. The centre carries the large denomination text QUINIENTOS COLONES against an elaborate multicolour guilloche underprint of interlocking rosettes and spirals, with the numeral 500 in ornate cartouches at left and lower right. The date 6 de julio de 1994, series letter D, serial number prefix, and two facsimile signatures over their respective titles PRESIDENTE EJECUTIVO and GERENTE appear across the lower register, above the issuer's name in a solid red-orange band. |
