| Obverse description | Bimetallic coin with a copper-nickel centre set within a nickel brass ring. The large numeral '500' dominates the centre field of the inner disc, with the denomination legend 'COLONES' inscribed below. A latent image security feature is incorporated in a ruled panel beneath the denomination. The legend 'BANCO CENTRAL DE COSTA RICA' arcs across the upper portion of the inner disc, while the outer ring bears the country name legend 'REPÚBLICA DE COSTA RICA' around its full circumference. Decorative rectangular elements are distributed along the lower arc of the outer ring, with small circular ornaments at each side. |
