| Reverse description | The copper-nickel centre depicts a relief map of Costa Rica superimposed upon a stylised globe rendered with meridian and latitude lines. A flaming torch rises from the top of the globe into the outer ring, bearing the inscriptions 'LIBERTAD · PAZ' and 'DEMOCRACIA' on its shaft. In the lower left field of the centre, a rectangular inset labels 'Isla del Coco', identifying Costa Rica's offshore Pacific territory. The outer nickel brass ring carries the commemorative legend '200 AÑOS DE INDEPENDENCIA' arcing across the top, the motto 'LIBERTAD PAZ DEMOCRACIA' along the lower arc, and the date range '1821 - 2021' at the base, all separated by circular pellets. |
