| Obverse description | Bimetallic coin with a nickel brass outer ring bearing the legend REPÚBLICA DE COSTA RICA along the upper periphery and a decorative segment pattern along the lower border. The copper-nickel centre displays the large numeral 500 prominently in the upper field, with the denomination COLONES inscribed below. The legend BANCO CENTRAL DE COSTA RICA arcs along the upper portion of the inner disc. A latent image security feature is incorporated into the lower section of the centre, visible as a panel of fine parallel lines containing a secondary numeral motif that shifts with the viewing angle. |
