Additional information

Antonio José de Sucre was assassinated in 1830 at age 35, just months after resigning the presidency of Bolivia — a country named for his mentor — and before he could take any meaningful role in the fractured republics Bolívar's revolution had produced. Venezuela issued commemoratives in his name periodically through the twentieth century, though by 1995 the bolívar itself was deep in crisis: the country had suspended foreign exchange trading earlier that year during a severe banking collapse that wiped out roughly half the domestic financial sector.
