Obverse description At right, an intaglio portrait of Emperor Haile Selassie I in military uniform anchors the composition, while a detailed vignette of Fasilides Castle at Gondar occupies the left field. The issuer name 'STATE BANK OF ETHIOPIA' is printed above the Governor's signature line, with bilingual inscriptions in Ge'ez script and English arranged centrally, flanked by guilloche rosettes in the upper corners bearing the denomination numeral 500. A multicoloured guilloche underprint runs along the lower register, unifying the overall design.
