| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of Panama occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield supported by cornucopia and displaying crossed sword and rifle in the upper quarters, a representation of the Isthmus of Panama with the sun rising over the Pacific in the third quarter, and a cornucopia in the fourth quarter. A harpy eagle with wings displayed surmounts the shield, clutching a ribbon inscribed PRO MUNDI BENEFICIO, and nine stars arranged in an arc appear above. The circumferential legend REPUBLICA DE PANAMA runs along the upper border, while the denomination 500 BALBOAS is boldly inscribed along the lower border. The fineness notation 900/1000 ORO FINO appears in the lower central field beneath the shield. |
