| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of Rwanda is displayed prominently at centre, featuring a shield with a sun motif, sorghum, and a knot, supported by hands clasping below. The arms are encircled by a beaded border with the legend REPUBLIKA Y'U RWANDA along the upper interior. The denomination 500 and the Kinyarwanda inscription AMAFARANGA MAGANA ATANU appear in the lower field, with BANKI NKURU Y'U RWANDA arching along the upper periphery. The fineness mark AG 999 is situated to the left field and the date 2014 to the right field. The motto UBUMWE-UMURIMO-GUKUNDA IGIHUGU is inscribed on a ribbon at the base of the arms. |

| Reverse description | A highly detailed three-dimensional gold-plated sculptural effigy of a horse (Equus ferus caballus) in a rearing pose occupies the central field, rendered in high relief and finished with gold plating to contrast against the silver ground. The horse stands atop a mound of traditional Chinese cash coins, also gold-plated, symbolising prosperity and generosity. The legend YEAR OF THE HORSE arches along the upper periphery, and the date 2014 appears in the lower field. The bold sculptural treatment creates a striking three-dimensional effect characteristic of this series. |
