Obverse description The national coat of arms of Rwanda is displayed centrally within a series of concentric circular rings, rendered in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field. The shield bears the traditional Rwandan emblems including a sun, sorghum, and a traditional basket, supported by knotted ropes and surmounted by the national motto on a ribbon. The upper legend reads BANKI NKURU Y'U RWANDA, with the date 2011 to the right and the fineness mark AG 999 to the left. The denomination AMAFARANGA 500 MAGANA ATANU is inscribed along the lower portion of the obverse.
