Obverse description The national coat of arms of Rwanda is displayed at centre within a circular field framed by concentric rings. The shield bears traditional Rwandan motifs including a knot and zigzag pattern, flanked by sorghum stalks and a coffee branch, supported by a knotted rope at the base, with a sun at the top and the national motto UBUMWE-UMURIMO-GUKUNDA IGIHUGU inscribed on a scroll beneath the shield. The legend BANKI NKURU Y'U RWANDA arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination AMAFARANGA 500 MAGANA ATANU is prominently displayed along the lower field. The fineness mark AG 999 appears at lower left and the date 2011 at lower right, all rendered in a highly polished proof finish.
