Obverse description The national coat of arms of Rwanda is depicted centrally in high relief, featuring a shield bearing a knot motif, flanked by two coffee branches, with a sun rising above and a rope knotted at the base. The inner legend reads REPUBULIKA Y'U RWANDA along the upper arc of the shield, and UBUMWE-UMURIMO-GUKUNDA IGIHUGU along the lower arc. The upper field carries the legend BANKI NKURU Y'U RWANDA in large raised letters arcing across the top of the coin. The denomination AMAFARANGA 500 MAGANA ATANU is inscribed in the lower field in bold relief. The design is presented in a proof-like finish with a deeply mirrored field.
