Rwanda has no coastline. The green sea turtle — a species of open ocean and tropical reef — has no geographic connection to the landlocked country issuing this coin. It belongs to a category of Rwandan silver issues from around 2010 produced specifically for the collector export market, a practice common among small nations whose mints effectively license their sovereignty to foreign distributors, with the National Bank lending its name to products designed and sold elsewhere.
