Rheinische Bergbaugesellschaft was a Rhenish mining company operating out of Coblenz during the hyperinflation peak, and like hundreds of German industrial firms in 1923, it issued its own Notgeld to pay workers when Reichsbank notes simply couldn't be printed fast enough to keep pace with collapsing purchasing power. These corporate emergency issues were technically illegal under the Reichsbank's monopoly but were tolerated out of necessity.

The 500,000 Mark denomination places this firmly in the summer-to-early-autumn 1923 window, before denominations climbed into the billions. Corporate Notgeld from smaller regional issuers like this one was rarely saved in quantity.
