| Obverse description | Printed in green on pale paper, the obverse carries the title inscription NOTGELD DER STADT ERFURT at the top in bold letterpress, flanked on both sides by the numeral 500 000 set against dense guilloche rosette underprints. A central woodcut-style vignette presents a stylised view of Erfurt Cathedral and the Severikirche rising behind radiating sunburst lines, framed by a plain rectangular border. Below the vignette, the denomination Fünfhunderttausend Mark appears in large blackletter script, with a two-line validity clause, the date Erfurt, den 20. August 1923, a serial letter and number in red, and two manuscript signatures under the caption Der Magistrat at the lower right. |
