| Obverse description | The denomination 500,000 LIRA is displayed prominently in the center of the field, flanked on the left by a spray of wheat ears and on the right by a laurel branch, the two forming a wreath around the value. The circular legend TURKIYE CUMHURIYETI arcs across the upper portion of the coin. A crescent and star, the national symbol of Turkey, appears at the top of the field above the inscription. A small mint mark is visible at the lower center of the field. |

Issued to mark the 500th anniversary of the expulsion of Jews from Spain in 1492 and their subsequent welcome into the Ottoman Empire under Sultan Bayezid II, who reportedly dispatched ships to bring Sephardic refugees to Ottoman shores. The commemorative program was a deliberate diplomatic gesture by the Turkish government, timed precisely to the quincentennial and released in coordination with Turkish Jewish community organizations.
KM#1017 is part of a broader multi-metal commemorative set from the same program.
