| Additional information |
Issued to mark the 75th anniversary of the Grand National Assembly, which convened for the first time in Ankara on April 23, 1920 — a date chosen deliberately by Mustafa Kemal to coincide with National Sovereignty and Children's Day. The Assembly's founding was an act of political defiance against both the Ottoman sultanate and the Allied occupation forces controlling Istanbul, and its legitimacy was entirely contested at the time of its first session.
The .9166 fineness places this squarely in the traditional 22-karat standard long used by the Turkish mint for commemorative gold issues.
