Reverse description Pope John Paul II is shown seated at left in an intimate vignette, bending to kiss the hand of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński who kneels before him — a celebrated scene of humility and respect between the two Polish Catholic leaders. To the right, an excerpt from the Pope's letter to the Polish people is reproduced in facsimile text alongside his autograph signature, with a vignette of the Jasna Góra Monastery in Częstochowa rendered beneath.

Issued to mark the first anniversary of John Paul II's death in April 2005, this commemorative note was a collector issue rather than a circulation piece — the NBP sold it in presentation folders and it never entered everyday use. Andrzej Heidrich designed the regular Polish banknote series for decades, making his involvement here a natural continuity rather than a special appointment.

The security specification is notably modest for a 2006 Polish issue, suggesting the NBP prioritized the commemorative dimension over anti-counterfeiting robustness — a reasonable calculation for a note never intended for tills.
