Reverse description The reverse presents a bold, medallic bust portrait of Bolesław I Chrobry (Bolesław the Brave), first King of Poland, depicted facing slightly to the right within a shallow circular frame. The king is shown crowned with an ornate royal crown and wearing fur-trimmed royal robes, his face rendered with a prominent mustache and detailed physiognomy in a stylized historicist manner. The curved legend BOLESŁAW•I•CHROBRY•992-1025 runs along the lower and left periphery, citing his reign dates. The word PRÓBA (trial/proof) appears in the upper right field, identifying this as a pattern strike. The overall composition is the work of engraver Józef Markiewicz-Nieszcz.
