Bank Polski was established in 1924 as part of the Grabski monetary reform that replaced the worthless Polish marka with the złoty — a stabilization effort that genuinely worked, at least for a while. This 1929 note belongs to the series that carried that reformed currency through the late interwar years, a period of relative monetary stability before the Depression forced repeated devaluations beginning in the early 1930s.

Karpiński served as Bank Polski president from the institution's founding until 1929, making his signature on this note a near-terminus marker for his tenure. Notes of this series are frequently found with folds and handling wear consistent with genuine extended circulation.
