This note was issued by the Building Committee of the Central House of the United Party of the Working Class — a fundraising instrument tied directly to the construction of the MDM complex in Warsaw, the showpiece Stalinist development project of the early 1950s. These were not banknotes in any monetary sense; they functioned as contribution receipts or internal scrip, issued to party members and affiliated organizations as part of obligatory collection drives. Refusal to participate was rarely a realistic option.
The watermarked paper gives the piece a formality that exceeds its actual function.
